On August 15, the Ukrainian ensemble D’OB is going to Kharkiv, combining IDM, techno, dibstep with avant-garde academic music. The combination of oboe, clarinet, bassoon and strings with electronics: a synthesis of current dance and academic traditions intertwined in a powerful and non-trivial musical performance.
Starting with a rethinking of the tracks Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Shostakovich’s preludes, DZ’OB has released three mini-albums with their music: the eponymous DZ’OB (2016), Basement Suite (2017), Beings for Throbbing (2018).
Musicians:
Oboe - Vasyl Starshynov
Bassoon - Oleksii Starshynov
Violin - Iryna Li
Cello - Oleksii Badin
Electronics, sound engineer - Maksym Andrukh
The ensemble collaborates with electronic producers, academic and jazz composers. That's why last year DZ`OB went even further in their experiments, and arranged an open call among musicians to rethink the works of their band. And what at first might have seemed too narcissistic a step, turned into one of the most interesting albums of 2020 - Deconstruction.
Cross-genre is a marker of DZ`OB's creativity and fits the ideas of our Promodo Hub very well, because it is always a guarantee of new impressions and unforeseen discoveries. Come for new favorite tracks to your playlist!
